Île d'Yeu and Noirmoutier: the anchorages

On Noirmoutier you anchor off the Bois de la Chaise, sheltered from northwest to southwest in a 2 knot stream; the Plage des Dames turns uncomfortable in a northeasterly, especially on the ebb. L'Herbaudière is open at any hour except on the biggest tides, while Noirmoutier-en-l'Île and Morin dry out. Île d'Yeu, 17 km offshore, has Port-Joinville, 658 berths including 230 for visitors, and a fair weather anchorage on sand in 5 to 7 m off the entrance. On the rocky south coast, Port de la Meule and its neighbouring coves only work without swell. Keep off the Pilier from 1 March to 15 August, the nesting season.
