Approach and anchoring
Swimming zone marked and regulated in summer by municipal bylaw; no anchoring inside the buoyed perimeter. Approach and stay north of the buoyed area, where outcropping rocks lie between and around the buoys; keep clear of any buoy lying in about 4 m. Shelter from W and SW is fair but fails in strong winds, and swell wrapping round the island can set up a roll, so it works best as a fallback when Les Vieilles is too exposed. It fills with daytime motorboats in July and August. Use Port-Joinville 1.5 NM NW for a berth or the bay of La Meule on the south coast as a daytime anchorage.
Ashore
The coastal path GR 80 runs past the beach and loops the whole island over 26 km. Port-Joinville town has shops, ferries to Fromentine and bike rentals. Old harbour of Port de la Meule and Vieux Château on the south coast are reachable by bike in about 30 minutes.
