Guérande peninsula: Piriac, Le Croisic and La Baule

14 places · Loire-Atlantique

Between the Vilaine and the Loire, La Turballe can be entered at any state of tide, Pornichet too except for deep keels at low water springs, and Piriac as soon as its gate opens, at 2.2 m of tide. Le Croisic is reached through the Grand Traict channel, where the stream exceeds 5 knots at springs, and Le Pouliguen up a tidal creek usable from half tide. Off Piriac, Île Dumet is protected by decree: from 1 March to 31 July, no boats and no anchoring within 200 m of its foreshore. La Baule bay, open to the south, is the place to sit out a northerly.
