Approach and anchoring

Approach from the north-west keeping clear of the rocky shoals off the Plantier point. Mud holding. Exposed to winds from north through east, sheltered from the south-westerly prevailing flow, though a westerly swell can still work in. VHF 72.

Practical

Local moorings are mostly private. Noirmoutier-en-L'île harbour lies 1.4 NM to the south-west via the Etier channel, which dries and requires tidal planning. L'Herbaudière marina on the west coast is 3.2 NM by sea, all-tide access.

Ashore

Land the dinghy on Souzeaux beach, which sits directly above the anchorage; a small launching roller helps but crews still wade ashore. The town and its grocery are a 20 to 30 minute walk. Noirmoutier castle and the Saint-Philbert church lie south through the town. Salt marshes and the Bois de la Chaise oak wood reach the cliffs east of the anchorage.
