Small rocky inlet on the south coast of the Île d'Yeu, used as a fishing and visitor mooring under the white Notre-Dame-de-la-Bonne-Nouvelle chapel.

Approach and anchoring

Narrow entrance between rocks heading north into the inlet; landmarks are the chapel on the cliff above and the red pierhead. Bottom is sand and rock, holding uneven, and it deepens quickly, so many anchor near the entrance for room to swing. Sheltered from north, north-east and north-west. Open to the south and untenable in southerly swell; a wind from west through south-east soon raises a chop, and it can roll near high water.

Practical

Water tap on the quay. No fuel, no electricity. Port Joinville is 2.1 NM north for full services, or take the low-cost shuttle bus that runs to the town from La Meule. A single restaurant on the quay opens in season.

Ashore

The Notre-Dame-de-la-Bonne-Nouvelle chapel stands above the port, a fishermen's votive chapel rebuilt in 1898. A crêperie about 100 m up from the quay is well liked. The GR80 coastal path runs along the cliffs, reaching the Vieux Château at 1.5 km west and the Pointe des Corbeaux lighthouse at 6 km east.
