Anchorage off the sand beach of Luzéronde on the north coast of the Île de Noirmoutier, west of L'Herbaudière.

Approach and anchoring

Approach from the north in daylight with settled weather. Rocky reefs extend offshore from both ends of the beach and the west cardinal buoy Patou marks the danger to the west, so give them a wide berth. Anchor on sand between the reefs in 3 to 5 metres at low water, closer in at neaps. The northern end of the beach lies a little better sheltered; in a westerly swell a cross sea makes it uncomfortable and the shallows dangerous.

Practical

Mixed sand and rock bottom. Shelter from NE, E and SE. Exposed to W, NW and N winds. L'Herbaudière harbour 0.9 NM N is the closest refuge, Port de Morin 1.8 NM S on the west side of the island.

Ashore

Sand beach of Luzéronde, undeveloped with no facilities and a naturist area, lifeguarded in July and August. Bois de la Chaise oak wood and the 19th century villas of the resort lie 3 km east. The lighthouse and fishing harbour of L'Herbaudière are within walking distance along the coast path.
