Approach and anchoring

Sand bottom with good holding, and the tidal stream can run up to 1.5 knots parallel to the beach. Protection from W through S. Exposed to N and NE winds, and the buoys roll heavily in any W to NW swell. The flat sandy bottom shoals so far that even a boat drawing about 1.10 m can touch for half an hour at the bottom of a big spring tide, so a deeper keel should mind the tide. Watch the drying reefs north of the bay at low water, keep well offshore until the anchorage is open. Tide range up to 6 m on spring tides.

Practical

The buoys are a mix of public and private and no one is seen to collect a fee. Nearest harbour services at Port de L'Herbaudière, 2.3 NM west.

Ashore

Plage de la Clère immediately shoreward. Bois de la Chaise pine woods and the 1828 phare du Plantier 2 km by the coastal path. Port de L'Herbaudière, fishing harbour and salt marshes, 2.3 NM W.
