Approach and anchoring

Reached from the Côte Sauvage along the south shore of the island. Two rocks known as les Ours sit in the middle of the entrance, charted but easily closed with when the cove fills up, and they uncover at low water. The seabed is eelgrass over sand with stony patches, so anchor clear of the weed to find sand, behind the fishermen's mooring buoys off the beach, and keep a tripping line to break out a fouled hook. Well sheltered from NW through N to E, but exposed to the S and SW swell and untenable in southerly weather.

Practical

Unequipped mooring. Port-Joinville lies 2 nm NE with all services: capitainerie, fuel berth, chandlery, supermarket, and in summer a bus runs across the island to the town. Fromentine ferry terminal 15,2 nm NE on the mainland.

Ashore

The GR 80 coastal path crosses the south cliffs of the island, leading west to the Vieux Château, a 14th century fortress built by the Harpedane family, and east to Port de la Meule, a small fishing cove with the Notre-Dame-de-la-Bonne-Nouvelle chapel above it.
