Approach and anchoring
Wide sandy bay open to the S. Approach from the S clear of the Pointe de Penchateau to the W. Sand bottom, holding reported as good. Protection from N, NE and E. Fully exposed to S and SW swell, untenable in fresh onshore winds. In summer the bay fills with jet skis, dinghy classes and beach traffic and stays lively into the night, so it works best as a daytime or off-season stop.
Practical
No moorings ashore in the bay itself. Port du Pouliguen marina at 2 NM W with 860 berths and lock access to the tidal basin. Port de Pornichet at 1.6 NM SE with 1150 berths and a fuel berth. Shops along the 9 km beach promenade of La Baule.
Ashore
La Baule beach runs 9 km along the bay, one of the longest in Europe. Guerande salt marshes and the medieval walled town at 5 km to the NW. Batz-sur-Mer and its 60 m bell tower at 3 km W of Le Pouliguen.
