Approach and anchoring

Approach from the W passing N of the Banc de Piriac shoal marked by a N cardinal. Entrance between two lit jetty heads into a basin retained by a tidal sill, with 2.2 m held at low water; access is limited to a tidal window and the port publishes the real-time depth over the sill on its website. The waiting buoys outside are exposed to chop in fresh onshore winds, so time the arrival for the gate. VHF 9. Swell from NW can make the approach uncomfortable in fresh onshore winds.

Practical

830 berths on pontoons, fuel berth with diesel, water and electricity on pontoons, sanitaries with showers. Capitainerie open year-round. Bakery, butcher, small supermarket and seafood restaurants within the walled village 150 m from the pontoons.

Ashore

GR34 coastal path runs along the cliffs west of the harbour, reaching the Pointe du Castelli viewpoint at 1.2 km. Small sandy beach of Port-aux-Moines at 300 m east. Guérande salt marshes and medieval walled town of Guérande accessible by road at 10 km.

History

Piriac is one of 24 Breton villages classified Petite Cité de Caractère, with a 17th-century granite church and stone houses along the rue du Lavoir dating from the same period.
