Cap d'Agde to Port-Barcarès: lagoon harbours and fair-weather anchorages

Cap d'Agde and its 115 metre hill show from 12 miles. The islet of Brescou and its fort, a mile to the south-west, are ringed by rocks: a calm-weather stop, like La Conque. The Cap d'Agde marina has about 3,100 berths, and its entrance gets difficult in a strong east-south-easterly. Gruissan is reached by a buoyed channel across the Grazel lagoon, and Port la Nautique, on the Bages lagoon, can only be reached from Port-la-Nouvelle with the mast down. Port Leucate, 1,400 berths, opens 2 miles south of Cap Leucate; the entrance is tricky in a south-easterly swell and the tramontane can reach force 8 within hours.
