Guide
Approach and anchoring
Sand bottom, good holding, with the odd patch of weed so check the anchor has bitten. Shelter from the S, SW and W only. Exposed to the tramontane from NW and to an easterly swell that curls round the Cap Leucate headland and can make the nights roll. Anchor in 3 to 6 metres a reasonable distance off the beach, clear of the marked swimming zone in season. Sand runs right up to the foot of the cliff, so tucking in close under it gains a little extra shelter.
Practical
No services at anchor. Port Leucate 3.7 NM to the south and Port-la-Nouvelle 5.5 NM to the north cover fuel, water and shore berths.
Ashore
The village of La Franqui, 600 metres inland, has a small grocery, bakery and a few cafes open year-round. The beach itself is a known spot for kite surfing thanks to the steady tramontane. Writer Henry de Monfreid spent part of his childhood here and his former house is signposted.
