Approach and anchoring
Approach from offshore and anchor in 3 to 4 metres below the lighthouse and radar, not off the semaphore, to find sand rather than rock; some rock is mixed in, so set the anchor with care. Stay north of the buoys marking the Leucate Plage bathing area. Tucking close under the cliff gives good shelter from the tramontane and the NW, but there is no swell protection: it is a fair-weather day stop, untenable at night in any E or SE swell. Port Leucate 2.7 NM S is the nearest refuge.
Ashore
Falaises de Leucate, limestone cliffs up to 50 m high with a waymarked clifftop path, and small naturist and textile coves beneath them. Sémaphore de Leucate on the headland, still active for maritime surveillance. AOC Fitou and Corbières vineyards inland within 5 km.
