Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the south, rounding the basalt cliffs of Mont Saint-Loup. Near the shore the bottom is stone slab and rocky fill left from cliff-securing works, so look for the sand patches about 200 metres off and drop in 3 to 5 metres, clear of the bathing zone marked by yellow buoys in season. It is well sheltered in a strong westerly but rolls at the slightest swell, especially from the S or SE, so it suits a day stop. Port du Cap d'Agde lies 0.4 NM to the W as shelter.
Practical
No facilities at the anchorage, and Port du Cap d'Agde lies 0.4 NM west for all services. In season the bay fills with jet skis, rental boats and tour boats playing loud music through the day, quietening only late in the evening.
Ashore
Black volcanic sand beach backed by basalt cliffs, a geological rarity on the French Mediterranean coast. Shops and restaurants of the Cap d'Agde resort within 15 minutes walk. Fort de Brescou visible 1 NM offshore.
