Guide
Approach and anchoring
Anchoring is allowed by day only and forbidden at night by municipal by-law. Follow the marked channel in and turn to starboard towards the Mateille pond to reach the anchorage, as it shoals to grounding outside the channel, and the entrance pass is awkward in a south-east or north-east swell. Total shelter once inside, in about 3 to 4 m; the mud holds well but fouls the chain and dirties the deck, so use the anchor-rinse point ashore.
Ashore
The anchorage has no tender pontoon, so head into the port of Gruissan for its restaurants, La Plancha Voile among them. The old village 0,8 km SW is built in rings around the Tour Barberousse, a 13th century square keep on a rocky outcrop. The chalets on stilts of Gruissan-Plage, 1,5 km away, featured in the film Betty Blue. The Narbonnaise en Mediterranee regional park surrounds the lagoon, and the working Saint-Martin salt pans lie 2 km north.
