Large marina of 1400 berths on the Languedoc coast, between the Leucate and Salses lagoons and the Gulf of Lion.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the east across open sea. Entrance channel dredged to around 3 m, marked by red and green lit pier heads. Watch for sandbanks on the starboard hand on approach, where the water shoals. Tramontane from the NW can kick up a steep swell at the entrance. Berths lie between poles, so have bow lines ready to lasso them and moor unaided. The reception pontoon on the breakwater takes the wash of passing boats, though the basins inside are well sheltered. Maximum draught 2.5 m. VHF 9 for the harbour office.
Practical
1400 berths managed by the Port Leucate harbour office. Fuel station on the pontoon. Water and electricity on pontoons, sanitary blocks with showers. The marina is largely self-service through the Kindoo app, needed to open the gates and reach the sanitary blocks, and there is no berthing assistance. The office closes around 5.30pm and after that the visitor pontoon is reached by app code. The pontoon and office lie a long walk from the shops, some 800 m to the office, with Bassin B the closest basin to the office and sanitary blocks. A chandlery is on site. Shops, bakeries and supermarkets within the Port Leucate resort. Refuge harbours at Coudalere 3.4 NM S and Port Nautica 3.5 NM S.
Ashore
Leucate beach runs for several kilometres north and south of the port. Oyster shacks nearby serve Leucate oysters, among them Le Hippocampe. Cliffs of Cap Leucate with a signalled coastal path start 2 km north. Fitou AOC vineyards inland from 5 km. Windsurfing and kitesurfing base on the lagoon side, reached on foot in under 1 km.
