Approach and anchoring

Clear approach from the west between the Petit Langoustier islet and the Langoustier peninsula. Drop on patches of bare sand between metres 5 and 10 to avoid the protected posidonia seagrass. Sheltered from W, SW, S, SE and E winds, wide open to the N and to the mistral that funnels across the island from the NW.

Practical

No services on site. Mooring regulation enforced by the Parc national de Port-Cros with seasonal buoy fields and no-anchor zones over seagrass. Village de Porquerolles 1.6 nm to the east for water, provisions, restaurants and the harbour office on VHF 9.

Ashore

Coastal footpath to the Fort du Grand Langoustier ruins on the headland, about 600 m from the beach. Track east across the salt marshes and vineyards of Domaine de l'Île to the village in roughly 40 minutes on foot.

History

The Fort du Grand Langoustier was built in the 17th century under Richelieu to guard the western approach to the Rade d'Hyères. A lobster holding pond gave the bay and the peninsula their name from the 18th century onwards.
