Guide
Approach and anchoring
Castle Cornet shows from well offshore. Anchor in 6 to 7 m on sand in the southern half, as the northern half is rock around local moorings. Keep clear of the charted subsea cables and the eelgrass around Moulinet rock. North of the cable, near the rocks, a concrete pillar about 1 m across lies just below the surface. A SW swell runs straight in, and around high water springs it rebounds off the harbour wall.
Practical
The buoys in the bay are private and several only suit sailing dinghies. Land by dinghy at the slipway beside Castle Cornet, usable at all states of tide since its 2024 repair. Rings along its side let a tender be locked. Swimmers use the whole bay. Yachts from outside the Bailiwick fly the Q flag and clear in at St Peter Port with form GC27 before landing.
Ashore
Castle Cornet has guarded the harbour since the thirteenth century. It holds several museums and fires a noonday gun in season. The La Vallette sea-water bathing pools line the shore, the largest with a café and hot showers for 1 pound in 2025. Two chandleries stand around the harbour, and a large supermarket is a short bus ride away.
