Guide
Approach and anchoring
Anchor well inside the cove, out of the tidal stream, on sand from about 20 m off the cliffs. Holding is good. Swell wraps round the point and the anchorage often rolls. S and SW winds send swell in, as does a W wind above force 6. In May 2026 an 18 kn westerly brought plenty of swell despite the shelter. Space is limited and can fill early with local boats in fine weather. The airport flight path passes overhead.
Ashore
The dinghy can land on the beach. The shore is steep, especially above half tide, and landing is on stones. A cafe bar stands at the top of the slipway. A hotel and restaurants lie 10 minutes up a steep hill, by the main road with buses to St Peter Port. In 2024 the road down was closed to traffic. A cliff path runs about 4 km from the north side of the bay to St Peter Port. The town is an hour's walk.
