Approach and anchoring

Anchor outside the breakwater, clear of the mooring fields, channels and the causeway to the Lagoon Pond bridge. Town moorings inside and outside the breakwater are taken first come, first served. The harbour is open from north to north-east and is a poor refuge in a north-easterly gale. Anchored vessels must be attended every 24 hours. VHF 9.

Practical

Vineyard Haven Marina and Black Dog Wharf hold most of the transient berths, with further dockage at Tisbury Wharf in depths of 2 to 4 metres. Shops and provisions are a short walk from the town dock at Owen Park.

Ashore

Vineyard Haven is the year-round arrival point for the island, with the Steamship Authority ferry from Woods Hole. The town dock at Owen Park sits among classic wooden boats, several of them built or kept locally.
