Guide

Approach and anchoring

Narrow buoyed entrance on the north side of the island, open to Nantucket Sound. Hail the harbour master on VHF 71, or call Oak Bluffs Launch on VHF 77 for the launch service. Moorings cannot be reserved and run first come first served, with up to four boats rafted per mooring at peak season.

Practical

Berths take vessels up to 110 ft on Mediterranean mooring. Fuel berth with diesel and petrol, water, shore power, pump-out for boats up to 40 ft. Off-season mooring is free by day and 35 USD overnight. Peak season flat rate of 50 USD.

Ashore

The Martha's Vineyard Camp Meeting Association sits 300 metres from the harbour, with 318 wooden Carpenter Gothic cottages from the 1860s and 1870s on a 34-acre site, designated a National Historic Landmark in 2005. The Flying Horses Carousel, in use since 1876, is a 5-minute walk from the berths.

History

The site began as a Methodist tent revival ground in 1835. Tents were replaced by wooden cottages through the 1860s, giving the town its distinctive architecture. The community was officially incorporated as the Martha's Vineyard Camp Meeting Association in 1860.
