Approach and anchoring
Great Harbor opens off Woods Hole Passage, where the tidal stream is strong and best taken near slack water. The bottom is mud with fair holding. Visitor moorings are run by Woods Hole Marine and the Woods Hole Yacht Club; call ahead, as anchoring room is limited and must not block the fairway.
Practical
Fresh water is available. Woods Hole Marine and the yacht club lie 0.3 to 0.5 miles east. The village has shops, restaurants and the Steamship Authority ferry terminal for Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket.
Ashore
The village is the home of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and the Marine Biological Laboratory, both open to visitors in season. The Woods Hole Science Aquarium stands a short walk from the harbour, and the Shining Sea Bikeway runs north towards Falmouth.
