Approach and anchoring

Vineyard Haven Harbour opens north onto Vineyard Sound and is exposed from north to north-east; it can get rough when the wind backs into that sector. Holding is mud, judged good. Moorings off Owen Park are first come, first served. Call the Tisbury harbourmaster on VHF 9 for availability.

Practical

A town dock and a swimming float front the park, with a public restroom and an open-air shower ashore. The Vineyard Haven shops and ferry terminal are a short walk along Main Street. Oak Bluffs lies 1.7 nautical miles to the east and Woods Hole Marine 5.2 nautical miles to the north-west.

History

The park is named after William Barry Owen, son of a whaling captain, born on Main Street in 1860. After his death in 1919, his widow gave the property to the Town of Tisbury for use as a public park.
