Guide
Approach and anchoring
The entrance lies on the eastern shore of Vinalhaven, between Bluff Head and Hen Island, about 1.5 to 2 miles south of the Fox Islands Thorofare. Inside, five or six separate anchorages give shelter from every direction. The bottom is sand and rock, so set the anchor with care.
Ashore
Land trust trails run through the woods and over the low-water sandbars around the bay. Maine Coast Heritage Trust holds the shoreline at Seal Bay and Winter Harbor, and seals and bald eagles are seen regularly. The inner reaches can be explored by tender at high water.
