Approach and anchoring

Approach Stonington Harbor from the south through the well-marked Deer Island Thorofare. The yard sits on Moose Island Causeway on the western side of the inner harbour. VHF 16 for the yard office.

Practical

Three marine railways and a travel lift handle vessels up to over 100 feet. Diesel berth on site. Engine repair, electronics, paint and varnish in two climate-controlled spray sheds, certified welding and machine shop. Open year round, weekdays 0700 to 1530.

Ashore

Stonington village within walking distance, with the Stonington Lobster Co-op, Isle au Haut mailboat dock and the Opera House Arts cinema. Acadia National Park unit on Isle au Haut reachable by the Miss Lizzie passenger ferry, 6 nautical miles south.

History

Founded by Lewis Billings in 1967 and still family-run with a staff of around 50. The yard works on the wooden lobster fleet of Stonington alongside passing yachts and commercial vessels.
