Approach and anchoring

Camp Island lies in the cluster of more than fifty islands of Merchant Row, reached from the Deer Isle Thorofare or from Jericho Bay. The anchorage takes shelter from north-east through south-east, with a westerly fetch left open. Lobster gear is thick through the whole archipelago.

Practical

Sand and mud give fair holding. Camp Island is a Maine Coast Heritage Trust island open for day landing. Billings Diesel and Marine, a full-service yard with fuel, water, moorings and a chandlery, lies 2.3 nautical miles to the west on the Thorofare. Bucks Marina is 12.3 nautical miles to the north-west.

Ashore

Land the tender on the Maine Coast Heritage Trust island, one of eleven open island holdings in Merchant Row, for shore walks and primitive camping. Stonington village, with shops and restaurants, lies a short run away by tender or boat across the Thorofare.
