Anchorage off Green Island, a 48-acre Maine Coast Heritage Trust conservation island in the Merchant Row archipelago between Stonington and Isle au Haut.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Anchor off the small cove on the south-eastern side, where a ladder on the old granite wharf gives shore access. Holding is in sand and mud, with shelter from the north-west and north only; the cove is open to other quarters.
Practical
Billings Diesel & Marine lies 1.3 nm to the west at Stonington for fuel, dockage and a full boatyard.
Ashore
A loop trail leads from the wharf to a meadow and to a flooded granite quarry now used as a freshwater swimming hole. The quarry was worked from 1905 by the Latty Bros. Granite Co. Old quarry stone and metal lie below the surface, so swim with care.
