Guide
Approach and anchoring
Pick up one of the guest moorings on the island's east side near the floating dock. The mud bottom holds well. The mooring field is open from north-east through south-east, so it suits settled weather or a westerly wind.
Practical
Visiting boats may land their group at the floating dock if space allows. A small dinghy is kept on the island for the run between the moorings and the float.
Ashore
The island is the headquarters of the Hurricane Island Outward Bound School, founded in 1964, and trails cross the former granite quarry site.
History
Hurricane Island was the site of the Hurricane Island Granite Company, where hundreds of stonecutters and their families worked the quarries until the trade collapsed in the early 20th century.
