Guide
Approach and anchoring
The entrance is narrow and easily missed in fog, with a bold rock outcrop marking its northern side. Hold to the south side of the harbour, west of the Acadia National Park float, where holding on sand and mud is good. Room is tight, with space for only four or five boats.
Practical
There are no services here. Billings Diesel and Marine at Stonington lies 7.2 nm N with fuel, water and a boatyard. Bucks Harbor Marina is 19 nm N. The mailboat from Stonington serves the island, which has no road link to the mainland.
Ashore
The Duck Harbor Mountain Trail climbs from the head of the harbour to a summit with a view over the outer islands. A small National Park Service campground of five lean-to sites sits ashore. The southern half of Isle au Haut has been part of Acadia National Park since 1943.
