Guide
Approach and anchoring
The point marks the inshore end of the Rockland Breakwater. Anchorage and moorings tucked behind the breakwater near Jameson Point give the best shelter from the north and north-west. The harbour stays open to the south. Watch for ferry, barge and cruise-ship traffic.
Practical
Three mooring buoys on mud. Journey's End Marina is 1 mile to the south-west and Landings Marina 1.2 miles south-west, both with fuel and services. The Rockland harbourmaster can advise on moorings.
History
An oil lamp on a wooden tripod marked Jameson Point from 1827. The granite breakwater running 7/8 of a mile from the point was completed in 1899, and the Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse at its outer end has stood since 1902.
