Guide
Approach and anchoring
The preferred approach starts at the R2 bell and runs NW into the harbour, leaving Curtis Island to port and nuns 4 and 6 to starboard. There are no real hazards on the buoyed channel. The mud bottom holds well; the outer harbour is more open and exposed in easterly winds. Two areas take visitors: the busy inner harbour and the more spread-out outer harbour.
Practical
The harbourmaster manages moorings and 10 transient berths on floating pontoons. Fresh water is available. Restaurants, a pharmacy, laundry and provisions are within walking distance around the inner harbour.
Ashore
Camden Hills State Park rises behind the town, with the Mount Battie trail climbing about half a mile to a summit view over the harbour and Penobscot Bay.
Story
Poet Edna St. Vincent Millay climbed Mount Battie above Camden and wrote her poem Renascence there in 1910. A plaque at the summit records its opening lines.
