Marina of 300 berths at the foot of the Ajaccio citadel, on the south side of the Ajaccio old town.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach through the Golfe d'Ajaccio from the west, passing north of the Îles Sanguinaires. The gulf is deep and clear, maximum draught 12 m at the outer berths. VHF 9. Shelter is good in summer, exposed to strong south to south-west winds in winter, and a moderate swell can still set into the basin from the open north side, with wash from ferries and cruise ships. Berthing is stern-to, a few berths with finger pontoons, on soft mud that sometimes needs a second drop. Diesel at the fuel berth to starboard on entry, 24 hours, but shallow, so mind deep keels.
Practical
300 berths with water and electricity, easy booking at resaportcorse.com with prompt confirmation, around 28 to 30 euros for a 12 m boat off season. Capitainerie, showers and toilets on the quay. Ajaccio Marine handles engine and electrical repairs on site. All shops, the covered market and restaurants within 200 m in the old town.
Ashore
Maison Bonaparte, birthplace of Napoleon, 300 m from the quay on rue Saint-Charles. Musée Fesch, second-largest collection of Italian painting in France after the Louvre, 500 m walk. Citadel on the point immediately south of the marina, begun under Genoese rule in 1492 and extended by Vauban.
History
Ajaccio is the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte, born in 1769. The marina is named after the tenor Tino Rossi, born in Ajaccio in 1907, who sold over 300 million records worldwide.
Story
The Musée Fesch holds the collection of Cardinal Joseph Fesch, uncle of Napoleon, with works by Titian, Botticelli and Veronese.
