Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the Gulf of Ajaccio keeping clear of the marked swimming area close to the beach. Sand bottom, good holding in clear patches, anchoring in 5 to 14 metres, shallower towards the west end. Shelter from NW, N, NE and W; exposed to SW and S winds, which build a sea directly into the bay when the libeccio blows. The anchorage rolls with passing ferries and cruise ships, and music from the beachfront restaurants runs late into the night.
Practical
The dinghy lands straight on the beach, with a water tap at the lifeguard house for jerry cans. Shops sit right behind the beach: a Carrefour supermarket, butcher, bakery, fishmonger, greengrocer and pharmacy, with a filling station behind the west end and a hardware store nearby. A local bus or a 15 to 20 minute walk reaches the town centre. Water, fuel, berths and further provisioning 0.9 NM NE at Port Tino Rossi; dinghy landing also at Dingy Dock 1.3 NM NE.
Ashore
Maison Bonaparte, birthplace of Napoleon, and the 16th century cathedral of Ajaccio are within 500 m of the Port Tino Rossi tender landing. Daily market on Place Foch every morning except Monday. Musee Fesch, second largest collection of Italian paintings in France after the Louvre, at 600 m from the old port.
