Guide
Approach and anchoring
Anchoring is now barred within 300 m of the beach, a zone marked by yellow buoys and enforced by the gendarmerie maritime and beach lifeguards, so lie outside the buoys where the sand carries good holding in about 15 to 20 m, needing plenty of chain. Approach is clear from the main Ajaccio fairway, keeping well off the shoreline rocks to the north. Sheltered from the wind from W through N to E, but a westerly or libeccio swell works in from the SW and a south to south-east swell can make it untenable overnight.
Practical
Mouillage forain only, most used as a stop for the airport, a 10 to 20 minute walk from a landing on the beach and handy for crew changes, with bus 8 to town and the airport. There are no shops at the anchorage, but a Spar and a Leclerc lie about 2.5 km off by a red-surfaced cycle and foot path that avoids the four-lane road, and a self-service laundrette is 500 m away near the petrol station, cash only. It is noisy by day from the road, railway and airport, and quiet after dark. Port Tino Rossi 1.4 NM W for visitor berths, diesel, water and provisions, with a dinghy dock on the Ajaccio waterfront.
Ashore
The Paillote Tahiti, at the north end of the beach, serves reasonable food, with beach landing only and no dinghy dock. Central Ajaccio is reached by tender in under 20 minutes, where Maison Bonaparte, birthplace of Napoleon in 1769, stands in the old town on rue Saint-Charles. The Sanguinaires archipelago sunset viewpoint at Pointe de la Parata is 6 km west of the city.
