Open day anchorage at the foot of the Franqui cliffs, a rocky break on the otherwise low, sandy Aude coast between Port Leucate and Port-la-Nouvelle in Occitanie.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Straightforward approach from seaward, no off-lying dangers. Anchor on the sand in about 4 to 7 metres, but rock patches lie among it and can trap the anchor, so rig a tripping line; holding is reasonable on sand and poor on the flat rock. Sheltered from S, SW and W, exposed to the marin from E and to swell from NE, which gets up quickly and can make the spot untenable, so treat it as a fair-weather day anchorage. The tramontane blows offshore, flattening the sea but pushing boats out.
Practical
Day anchorage in settled weather. Port Leucate lies 3.3 nm to the south and Port-la-Nouvelle 6 nm to the north for overnight shelter. No services ashore at the cape itself.
