Anchorage at the south-west tip of Corsica, under the twin Genoese towers of Senetosa and the lighthouse, sand and rock bottom.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the south or east, leaving the rocks of Les Moines well clear to the south-west. Anchor on the sand patches between rock and posidonia in 4 to 10 metres, though clear sand is scarce and lies mostly towards the south-west; the anchor fouls easily in the rock, so buoy it with a trip line. Room for five or six boats. Shelter from W, SW, S, SE and E depending on exact position on either side of the point. The cape is exposed in any strong wind from the opposing sector, and swell can work in late at night even in a calm sea. Tizzano lies 3,2 nm south-east, Port de Propriano 8,4 nm north-east.
Ashore
Twin Genoese watchtowers of Senetosa on the ridge above the anchorage, restored and open on the marked path from the lighthouse, about 40 minutes on foot. Senetosa lighthouse, built in 1892 and automated in 1994, stands at the tip of the cape and doubles as a hikers' refuge where drinks are available, roughly 20 minutes from the shore. Coastal footpath runs along the shore between Tizzano and Campomoro.
History
The twin towers of Senetosa were built by Genoa around 1608 as the only paired towers on the Corsican coast, positioned to cover the blind angle caused by the ridge between them.
