Sandy bay on the south coast of Sark, sheltered from winds between NW and NE. A path up a wooded valley links the beach with the village.

Approach and anchoring

Allow for a strong cross-tide on the approach. Holding is good in sand, with room for many boats well off the beach. Lay plenty of chain for the spring range. Swell enters with any southerly component. A W wind and swell wrap round the southern point of Little Sark into the bay. A shift to the E also makes it uncomfortable. It rolls most around high water.

Practical

Land by dinghy on the beach and haul the tender right up to the steps, where it can be tied. The sea covers almost the whole beach at high water, and surf can swamp a tender on landing. Low water uncovers a few rounded boulders. There is no water. Yachts from outside the Bailiwick must first clear in at Guernsey or Alderney, as direct arrival at Sark is not allowed.

Ashore

The path leads to the Dixcart Hotel and reaches the village in about 25 minutes. The village has a supermarket, restaurants and a pub. An easy walk leads to Hugo's bar. From 3 hours after high water until low water, a dinghy can explore the caves between Dixcart and La Coupée, the isthmus joining Little Sark.
