Guide
Approach and anchoring
In 2022 the bay had two mooring buoys, a yellow one further out and a red one inside. In early August 2022 both were taken. In 2026 a ferry regularly used a mooring here. Anchor on sand, which holds well. A flat-bottomed boat can anchor far into the bay. Wind shear and tidal streams swing boats at different rates, so leave room. Swell often rolls in and can worsen as the tide rises. The mill on the charted leading line had been destroyed by 2022.
Ashore
At Derrible the beach covers at high water and the way up is steep. Dixcart Bay next door gives an easier landing and path into Sark. At low water the beach dries, giving access to the caves. A staircase on the east side climbs the cliff near Little Stonehenge, and the Hog's Back is a short walk. A clifftop path runs from Dixcart to the causeway to Little Sark. In 2026 bikes could be hired 10 minutes' walk away.
