Guide
Approach and anchoring
Only the yellow buoys are for visitors. Several lie too close together for boats over 10 m. Depth at a yellow buoy ranged from 10 to 17.5 m in June 2026. Larger boats can anchor to seaward of the field. Room to anchor was short in 2023, as a long scope of chain was needed. The anchorage rolls, even on a buoy. It is open from N to E. Unlit rocks lie east of the moorings, so take care arriving or leaving at night.
Practical
Visitors' buoys cost 20 pounds a night in 2024. In 2024 payment was by QR code. Dinghies land on a small stony beach. On tides of coefficient 80 to 85 or more, the beach covers at high water. The dinghy then has to be lifted up the stairs. The tidal range is large, so haul the tender well clear.
Ashore
Steps beside the beach lead to a steep path up the cliff to the island roads and the village. The grassy track is slippery when wet. In 2023 A-B Bikes was the first bike hire at the top. Sark has no cars and no tarmac, but tractors and horse-drawn carriages use the lanes. Take a torch for the walk down after dinner ashore.
