Guide
Approach and anchoring
Sand gives good holding, and the bottom held well in 10 m in July 2026. The beach shelves gradually, and small boats can anchor close inshore. For a longer stay, anchor further out to keep enough depth. The bay is sheltered in NE and E winds, though a light breeze can come off the cliffs. A gentle swell can roll in, and the bay can roll at big spring tides. Tidal stream in the bay was very slight in 2021.
Practical
Tenders land on the beach. A shore break can mean timing the landing between sets, and surf can make it harder after westerlies or at mid tide. On a rising tide, pull the dinghy well up the beach. Once the tide has dropped, it is a long drag back to the water.
Ashore
About 300 steps, steep and rough in places, climb from the beach to the top. From there both Sark and Little Sark are easy to reach, Little Sark by the causeway. The village and its pubs lie a further walk away.
