Guide
Approach and anchoring
Mooring is on buoys only, with anchoring effectively banned to protect the weed; the buoy field is marked so far out that anchoring outside it means about 20 m of water and little sand among the posidonia. Black buoys are reserved through the Port Roses app, orange ones are for visitors, and long pick-up lines are provided. Well sheltered from the north-west and the tramontana but open from east to south, and the wind swirls off the hills in gusts stronger than forecast, so allow room to swing.
Practical
The buoys are dear and charged separately for the day, roughly 10:00 to 18:00, and for the night, so a full day and night can run from around 60 to over 110 euros by length, more than the port of Roses for the same boat and with no water or electricity. Book and pay through the Port Roses app, which also manages the neighbouring coves, or a Roses launch comes round to collect the fee.
Ashore
A gravel and black-pebble beach with a restaurant at its head, part of a private centre that turns dogs away and is noisy in the evening. There are no shops, but cliff-path walks run around the cove.
Story
Ferran Adria's restaurant elBulli operated at the head of the cove until it closed in 2011.
