Guide
Approach and anchoring
The 100 buoys go in for the season; they are white, with a ring set just below the surface, so have a mooring line ready to thread. They take boats up to about 12 metres and there is little room to anchor once they are laid. What sand there is lies at the edge of the buoys opposite Dali's house, the rest being weed, and the bay is shallow at around 2 metres even near the channel. It is well sheltered from the swell that plagues Cadaques but exposed to the north and north-east tramontana, and a south-easterly sends some swell in.
Practical
The buoys are fee-paying only from June to September, and the charge is steep, often upwards of 100 euros a night for a 14 to 15 metre boat, with little service and a firm request to leave by late morning. Outside the summer season the buoys are usually free, and a handful of owners' buoys stay open most of the year. A boat taxi comes out to help pick up the mooring.
Ashore
The Dali house-museum stands on the bay and closes at 5pm, and Cadaques is a 15 minute walk along a footpath. A beach cafe overlooks the cove, though the restaurant by the free car park is best avoided.
