Approach and anchoring

Leave the ICW and run up the St Marys River to the town. The deep anchorage lies off Lang's Marina; the mud bottom holds well. It is best in autumn and winter when northerly winds prevail. Tidal current runs strongly in the river, so allow for it when laying out.

Practical

Fresh water is available. Tenders land at the free floating dock at the town waterfront park. Lang's Marina sits 0.1 mile to the north-east; Saint Marys Boat Service is about 2 miles north-east.

Ashore

St Marys town centre is a short walk from the landing, with shops and provisions. The town is the mainland gateway to Cumberland Island National Seashore, reached by the passenger ferry from the waterfront.

History

St Marys was chartered in 1787 on a bend of the St Marys River. The town keeps an early street grid and timber buildings shaded by live oaks, and grew as a timber and shrimping port.
