Approach and anchoring
The bottom is sand and mud. The river reaches roughly 6 nm inland with depths of about 6.5 to 11 feet, leaving room to anchor in its many side coves. Sheltered from NW and NE round through E and W to SE, but open to the N and S. Sea Harbour Yacht Club and Whittaker Pointe Marina both lie about 7.7 nm to the NW, across the Neuse.
