Guide
Approach and anchoring
The Neuse River runs about six miles wide off Oriental, so there is plenty of swinging room. Hold north towards the shore for shelter from the prevailing summer southerlies. The anchorage is protected from NE through SE but fully exposed from S round to W, where the long fetch builds a steep chop.
Practical
No facilities at the anchorage. Sea Harbour Yacht Club and Whittaker Pointe Marina lie 6 nm to the north-west, both with fuel, water and visitor berths off Whittaker Creek near ICW mile 180.
