Guide
Approach and anchoring
Entered from San Francisco Bay through the lagoon mouth on the north-west side. The basin is rectangular and almost fully enclosed, so it stays calm in most conditions. Watch for ferry traffic: the Seaplane Lagoon terminal at Ferry Point runs services to the San Francisco Ferry Building.
Practical
Anchorage on a mud bottom, sheltered on all sides except the entrance. No facilities at the lagoon itself. Helms Yacht Sales and Safe Harbor Ballena Isle lie about 1 mile SE for berths, fuel and chandlery.
Ashore
The Seaplane Lagoon promenade and waterfront park run along the south shore. The USS Hornet Museum, an aircraft carrier open to visitors, is moored at Alameda Point a short walk away. Three 1940s seaplane ramps survive along the north edge of the lagoon.
