Approach and anchoring
Enter the Étang de Berre through the Caronte canal at Martigues. Shallow basin with limited swell. Approach the shore cautiously in settled weather. No lit marks at the anchorage itself.
Practical
Forain anchorage on sand and mud, good holding. No services on site. Port d'Istres-Les Heures Claires lies 2.2 nautical miles to the NW, Port Beau Rivage 3.9 NM to the NE for fuel, water and supplies.
Ashore
Medieval village of Saint-Mitre-les-Remparts roughly 1,5 km inland, with its 14th-century rampart enclosing the old town. Étang de Citis and Étang de Pourra nature area to the south, classed Natura 2000 wetland.
