Approach and anchoring

Entry into the Baie de Douarnenez from the west, rounding the Pointe du Millier. The Rosmeur mole shelters the working harbour to the north. Anchor south of the fishing fleet, clear of the fairway used by trawlers. Exposed to north and northeast swell.

Practical

No dedicated pontoon for visitors at Rosmeur itself, the active fishing port occupies the quays. Port du Rosmeur quay is 0,2 NM west. Port Rhu marina at 0,7 NM west has visitor berths, water, electricity and fuel. Town of Douarnenez with all shops directly behind the quay.

Ashore

Sentier des douaniers GR 34 starts from the port and runs along the bay towards the Pointe de Leydé. Port-musée de Douarnenez at Port Rhu with a fleet of preserved working boats, 0,7 NM west. Market at Halles de Douarnenez on Monday to Saturday, 300 m from the Rosmeur quay.

History

Douarnenez was the main sardine port of France in the 19th century, with more than 30 canneries active in 1900. The 1924 sardine workers strike, led by women cannery workers called Penn Sardin, is a landmark in French labour history.
