Approach and anchoring

Access through a sea lock at the foot of the Jean Marin footbridge, opening roughly two hours either side of high water by day in season. Maximum draught 3 m inside the basin, which keeps constant water level regardless of tide. Call Port-Rhu on VHF 9 before the lock.

Practical

Around 470 berths on pontoons, water and electricity, showers at the capitainerie. No fuel in Port-Rhu itself, nearest fuel berth at Tréboul 0.5 M NW. Bus to Quimper from the quay, all shops in Douarnenez centre at 300 m.

Ashore

Port-Musée de Douarnenez on the quays exhibits around forty vessels afloat and ashore, including tugs, sailing cargoes and sardine boats. Halles Saint-Michel covered market in Douarnenez every morning at 400 m. GR34 coastal path leaves from the basin towards Pointe du Raz to the west.

History

Port-Rhu was the old commercial harbour of Douarnenez, closed by a dam in 1991 to create a permanent water basin for the maritime museum opened in 1993.
