Family-run marina on the north side of Mount Sinai Harbour, on the North Shore of Long Island in Suffolk County, New York.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
From Long Island Sound, pick up the red and white buoy M just north of the inlet. The entrance runs between two breakwaters marked with a flashing red and a flashing green light. The old jetties are in poor condition, so round them with care. Inside, the channel shoals and turns sharply east, with privately maintained nun buoys leading up the harbour.
Practical
About 50 berths on floating pontoons, with 5 transient berths. Largest vessel taken is 50 feet. Approach and dockside depth around 15 feet. Fuel, launch service, moorings, haul-out, mechanical repairs and a bait and tackle shop on site. The restaurant serves three meals a day with live music Friday to Sunday.
History
Ralph and Barbara Davenport started the marina in 1961 on the south side of the harbour, hiring out rowing boats and a few moorings. It moved to the north side in 1977 and is still run by their children and grandchildren.
